Descendants of Stephen Bullock

Stephen Bullock

The below material is excerpted from "A Brief History of Warm Springs", published by the City of Warm Springs in celebration of its 100th year as a city - December 20, 1893 - 1993:
The Bulloch family made their way to Meriwether County around 1806. Stephen Bulloch, of North Carolina, married Winnie Robinson of Meriwether County. They had two sons Cyprian and Henry. Winnie died after the birth of Henry so Stephen brought his two young sons to Meriwether from North Carolina on horseback to live with their grandparents the Robinsons. Stephen left to return to North Carolina but was never heard from again. Some speculated he was killed by Indians or possibly a bear.

This is pretty much the story that is told about Stephen Bullock. It is doubtful that they were brought to Meriwether County because Meriwether didn't exist at that time, but there were North Carolina kin in several of the earlier counties of Georgia.
Cyprian married Lucinda Gray, daughter of Sam Gray from Lincoln County, quite possibly they were there at some time. Other counties mentioned are Wilkinson, and Upson. Early nineteenth century records are sometimes difficult to find in Georgia. The 1800, and 1810 census were destroyed. Church, and other records, that may possibly produce clues, have not surfaced at this time.

It may be that we need another path to follow. Sometimes, when we "hit the brick wall", it pays to go back and follow collateral lines. If Winny Robinson is indeed the mother of Cyprian and Henry Bullock there may be a record somewhere in that genealogical line. Stephen Bullock supposedly was one of three children born to John Bullock, and Sarah Mayo. His siblings, Elizabeth Hood Bullock, and James Bullock, both lived in North Carolina. Their lines can be explored in more detail, and might possibly lead to an answer to the puzzle. This page will attempt to follow some of these paths, and any ideas, suggestions, or information is most certainly needed.

Marriage records of Edgecombe County, North Carolina show that a Stephen Bullock, married Winny Robinson on March 24, 1800. The Second Census of the United States (1800), Edgecombe County, North Carolina, lists Stephen Bullock, age 16-25 with one female age 16-25. This census was taken on "the first Monday August 1800".

Stephen Bullock was the Administrator of his sister Elizabeth's estate in 1806. The inventory of her estate, taken by Stephen, is listed in February 1806 Edgecombe County Record of Estates, 1804-1807. There are no other estate records to be found for Elizabeth Bullock Woodard.

Stephen Bullock is listed on the MUSTER ROLLS SOLDIERS OF THE WAR OF 1812 DETACHED FROM THE MILITIA OF NORTH CAROLINA 1812 AND 1814 PUBLISHED IN PURSUANCE OF THE RESOLUTIONS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF JANUARY 28, 1851 AND THE RESOLUTION OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF FEBRUARY 29, 1871.

Stephen and Winny Bullock had two sons:

Cyprian Bullock

Henry Bullock
